Never before he had tried on the blog theme ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. No soy psychologist, nor psychologist and, therefore, I am not an expert on the subject, but I worry about how some teachers, that they are not, They strive to label this behavioral syndrome children from my point of view do not suffer.

A few weeks ago, the mother of one of my students came to me, very worried, to tell me how his little performance had fallen at school. A child who has always been restless, it costs to maintain focus, but he had always taken good notes. Initially, the teachers told him he had to work harder with him, who had perhaps been the change of course, etc. But curiously, after a few weeks the teachers begin to say that it was possible that the child had an attention disorder, I would have to take him to a neurologist and possibly, medicarle. ¡¡¡¡¿¿¿¿Medicarle????!!!!! ¿But you're a doctor or teacher??

We seem to forget that when a child with ADHD is "medical" we are drugging ... Of course we will get it to be quiet ... is drugged! Y some teachers who are neither psychologists, Doctors use this label or lightly without investigating about the environment for small or tried to work on that loss care.

I'm not saying that this syndrome does not exist, Of course there are cases of children with ADHD, but I also believe that many of those who are diagnosed, ... they could be many other ways. But of course, these are much more expensive… What do you think easier? Do you give a pill to a child? o Investigate what interests, what motivates, so try to get their attention? Of course, the first option is much easier when we have a classroom 30 students, of which more than half do not stop, They do not pay attention to us and we completely ignore the entire class. But if you can not with your class, ¡Dilo! Quejémonos! If all the teachers take the easy way, instead of claiming a better education: with fewer students per classroom to address diversity, more hours to prepare lessons ... Then our educational system will continue getting worse and worse. And our students are increasingly less prepared, which will lead us to a mediocre society and never will succeed.

Returning to the subject of ADHD, from my point of view, It is an attention problem that can be caused by various reasons, but in most cases we have no reason to fight drug.

1. Motivation.

You know what I think about the importance of motivation for children to learn. For me it is a pilar fundamental, without which there is no learning. I think in many of these cases, we are talking about children who are totally discouraged by what they are learning. In some, even, smarter children talk about the rest, who get bored and decide to "mess up" to entertain themselves in class. Last year I wrote This article on motivation, I think we can provide some clues to try to catch the attention of the kids.

2. Social and family factors.

I consider before taking the small neurologist and venture to medicate. We should worry to know, in depth, the family situation of the child, and if there is some factor in this may have triggered this change in attitude.

3. Feeding.

Before writing this post, I've read enough in some countries reducing the number of children diagnosed with ADHD thanks to a change in their diet. I made this point to the end, why, from my point of view, It is the most important when these disorders refers. In this article 2012 ... there was already talk of how in France has reduced the number of children diagnosed with ADHD. And we are talking about, Less than 5% of children, regarding more than one 9% in United States! Is not it amazing the difference?

When a French psychologist comes a possible case of ADHD, This research in the social and family context of the child; while, when an American psychologist has a possible case of Attention Deficit, directly blames a neurological problem ... and, of course, treat it with drugs. Further, French psychologists are seeing the possibility of a direct relationship between what the child eats and behavior.

Something I quite agree, and it would be reinforced by a Recent research, is that food can greatly affect behavior. This research is trying to establish a relationship between how the bacteria found in the gut, may affect the brain.

I hope that, gently, we continue researching and advancing more on this topic, and so avoid using treatments, from my point of view, unnecessary…

What do you think about this topic? I would like you to share your opinion, either for or against what I have raised in this post.

As usual, thanks for being there.
