It is increasingly difficult to capture the attention of our students. I do not know if you happen to you but, sometimes, I have to juggle my students to get involved in my class and I pay attention.
One way to capture the attention of our students is with activities and games. These are often called warmers, or activities to "warm up" the class.
I use them quite, especially in my college classes. But these activities can be used with almost any age and, I assure, that shall come great, not only for "Charmed" to your students, but also to review and work concepts in a fun way.
I wont activities can be used both in your English class, as in a class of Spanish as a foreign language, or even in a language class.
I leave 10 Activities that "you calentéis" your class and you make that your students want unmissable 😉
- Apocalypse zombie
I can assure you that when I did this activity in my class 4th / 5th grade was a success.
You have to explain to your students the following context: is about a zombie apocalypse occur. You have 1 time to pick 5 elements that help us survive for a week stuck in class. Remember that because we have no water apocalypse, no electricity ... If you are going to do this activity in your English class, This explanation should be in that language.
As in this class I have 5 Students did activity among all, But you can make groups of about 3-4 students.
Dejadles 2-3 minutes to discuss among themselves what they would bring to class five elements, Of course in English!
Vaction a dictionary on hand if there is any word you do not know.
Once the time is up, You sure you check out on the board the elements that each group has chosen and among all the class with which you stay Decide. Already you will see occurrences!
- The phone escacharrado.
This "warmer" may have two variants. Depending on the number of students you have in class Make groups 4-5. Ask students to be placed in a row, so that the first student in the group is on one end of the class and the last on the board. Tell the student who is at the end of class, without you hear the other members of the group, a phrase. This student has to repeat the student in front of him the same sentence, and so on until the phrase reaches the student who is on the board, you have to write. The team that has managed to convey the phrase more accurately wins.
The second variant of this game is to do the same but with a photograph. I assure you that when the description of the picture reaches the last student has nothing to do with the original 😉
- Put he story in order.
This activity is great to promote both speaking as reading. Coged o preparad un reading. You can from one that you have not worked or that you have previously worked in class. It is essential that the reading is appropriate for the age of your students.
Hew the reading into pieces. They can be lines or paragraphs. Divide the class into groups and give each group their reading into pieces. Who first organized the reading gains.
See that each paragraph or sentence begins by linking a word you have seen in class. Thus, when you reviséis if the pieces have come together well, you can see the role of the connectors to make sense of a story or writing.
- Blackboard race.
Did you think that this type of activity can only be made with the greatest? This I propose is ideal to make with kids in, even, 4 and 5 years old. It is great to go over simple concepts like numbers, the forms, etc.
Divide the board into two parts. Ask two of your students who go on board, each student in a part. They say a number and have to write as quickly as possible in your part of the board. I assure you will love it and will have a great.
- What is she/he wearing?
This activity is also great to do with kids in 1st and 2nd grade. Divide the class into pairs. Ask each pair to look for a few minutes to notice what the other wears. They then have to turn around and placed back to back. Each will have to describe what the other wears.
I will go over great for clothes, colors, the descriptions, etc.
- Running Dictation.
For me this activity is the most fun, yes, quitáis assure that class barriers to prevent accidents.
Divide the class into pairs. Each partner is at one end of the class. One will be read dictation and another write. You can also do group and that are being made the relay.
The student must remember reading a piece of text, run to his partner and dictate something. This will have to write as accurately as possible. Partner or group before and have done the exact wording wins.
- Guess who…?
This is a very simple activity, it will not take long but it's great to practice questions "yes / no "and questions with the verb to be.
A student goes to the board and thinks of a famous person. The rest of the class have to ask questions that can only answer this with "yes" or "no".
You can also make this game with vocabulary that you have previously worked. It's a great way to go over "inadvertently".
This game can be adapted to almost any age from the 7 years old. Obviously, depending on age and should be the complexity of the cards that you prepare yourselves.
Prepare cards with different situations. If you go to work them with kids in primary, You can prepare cards with purchase situations, for example.
Organize your students into pairs and give each pair a card. They will have to maintain a conversation depending on the situation that has touched them "live", for example: you buy a TV and want the seller you explain models, etc. What would you ask?
- Writing in the air.
One way to review vocabulary you saw in the previous class is typing in the air. Ask a student to come to the board, Choose one of the words (without telling his companions) and write in the air. The rest of the class has to guess which word is.
Students with higher levels you can do with words or sets of words.
- categorizing words.
This is another activity that you can use to start the class and revise vocabulary seen in the previous class.
Divide the board into two. On one side, Write a word that your students should know. On the other side of the slate Write down several categories. Let your students to decide which category that word.
I hope these activities will serve to start your class in a fun and funny and so capture the attention of your students.
Thanks for being there!
A hug,
