Took several weeks going around that would be the first item after the holidays. Do not think I found it easy to decide, I have several issues that I would try, but this post is special.
Cole begins and I'm sure most of your kids have no desire to start, but ye are forward 😉 But this does not happen to other children. There are children who are willing to go and cole, Unfortunately, they can not. This is the case of refugee children, affected by conflicts and wars that are in check much of the Middle East.
Many of these children have been forced to leave their country of origin, without really knowing where they will end.
The main problem is that these little ones are in refugee camps temporarily. Places where living conditions are very precarious and where, In most cases, there are no schools.
Luckly, there are initiatives through being created "schools" in which provide a minimum education for these children.
Today I want to talk about three of these initiatives. I hope to inspire your course starts as inspired mine.
Education Cannot Wait is a fund that was launched in May at the World Humanitarian Summit, which aims to create a source of financing for projects that prioritize education in conflict zones. One of the projects that this fund is financing is Theirworld, the first organization to campaign to fund a double shift system to educate Syrian refugee children, and that has already been launched in countries like Lebanon, Jordan and Türkiye.
The idea that this organization has launched consists of teaching a group of children in the mornings, and use the same resources and facilities to teach more children in the afternoons.
So, the capacity of schools in these countries is doubled, whether they were already crowded before the arrival of the refugees, imagine now...
Jesuit Refugee Service, or JRS, by its acronym in English, is working across the Middle East and Europe to help the most vulnerable people.
One of the projects that JRS has launched is the Bourj Hammoud school in Beirut, a school where very vulnerable children arrive daily, of rural environments, disadvantaged and poorly educated. We are talking about children who have experienced war firsthand., who have seen friends and family die, who have been forced to flee their country and their land, Imagine how complicated it must be to be able to care for children like this..
Just one piece of information to give you an idea.: in Spain, In a school there is usually a 5% of children with significant problems, In this type of schools it is a 95% of boys and girls who suffer serious problems.
Doctors of the World
Doctors of the World, for his part, is trying to respond to this need in the Greek refugee camps.
What I liked most about the Doctors of the World initiative is that not only do children receive the education they need and deserve.. There are many refugees who serve as teachers in these centers. In this way they solve two serious problems: On the one hand, the lack of schooling, and on the other hand, the lack of “inactivity” of many people who seek and need to feel useful. Further, The problem that many of these schools usually face is the language barrier. Something that does not happen in this case.
One of the refugee camps in which this type of initiative is being developed is the Chalkero refugee camp., to some 10 kilometers from the city of Kavala. This is one of the smallest refugee camps in Greece, some live there 240 refugees of whom 82 they are children. Except the Greek military forces, Doctors of the World is the only organization present, That is why it is so important that they are developing work like this.
Sometimes we just have to look around us a little to appreciate what we have..
I hope this article helps you face the return to school with energy., and to feel as lucky as I have felt to be able to live surrounded by opportunities for us and our little ones..
If you want more information on this topic, I leave you the links and news that I used to write this article:
