Today's post is not for you, Prof, ni para ti, father or mother. Today's post is for your children or students. Good, maybe it's also for some dads, but only for some 😉

One of the main characteristics of the methodology that I use in iKidz, is that the students have class only one hour a week. Something fundamental that I try to instill in my students and their parents, is that if they only come an hour a week it is because they have to review a little every day, in this way learning will be easier and more bearable.

What's the score? The result is that indeed some work throughout the week as I have indicated and they evolve a lot, but others ... others simply believe that by sitting for an hour in my classes they are already learning.

That is why today's post is aimed at all those students who need to be reminded, lovingly clear, what does it take to learn, but to learn truly and effectively.

Dear student…

  1. Learning is proportional to the effort you make.

I must say, unless you are an axe, to learn you will have to put in a lot of effort. I can't learn for you, mom can't learn for you, dad can't go to an exam for you, and if you don't make an effort and work you will never learn anything.

You may think that simply by sitting in class and listening you are learning, but that is not the case., opening a book and reading it can seem like learning, but it's not either. To learn you have to be actively involved, that's why when I tell you: "wake up", "participate", It is not to touch your nose, It's because I want you to learn, that you really learn.

  1. Seek new challenges.

Always look for activities that are challenging and difficult for you, new learning lies in these activities. Easy things will never get you ahead..

Don't blame me because I propose complicated activities and challenges., or because at first you don't understand what I'm explaining to you, sooner or later you will understand, I assure you that I will do everything in my power to make you understand., but I need you to help me, that you do your part and are willing to take on challenges.

  • Find the most difficult problems, the most difficult questions and try to solve them.
  • Reflect in some way what you just learned. When I tell you to go out to the blackboard and explain a certain concept to us, it's not so you can have a bad time.. “Teaching” and explaining to others what you have just learned is a great way to challenge yourself and review what you have learned..
  1. Question everything you learn.

Don't trust everything you read for the first time. Question it and look for information on the same topic in different sources.. This way you will not only expand your knowledge, You will also learn from different perspectives and make sure that what you are learning is correct.

Don't be afraid to say what you think and question what your teachers teach you., it is possible that on some occasion you are right, and if not, nothing happens, I will be happy to explain the nuances of your doubt 😉

  1. Creativity is good.

You don't always have to do what I say, nor copy things the way I copy them, If you think there is a faster and more effective way to do a certain activity, do it., I will love to get new ideas for my next classes.

Remember that I have been in this profession for a long time and perhaps I do not see things with the naturalness and freshness that you do.. Forward!

  1. Find the way of learning that best suits you.

Sometimes we teachers are a little square and we don't get out of our heads., horse and king. You don't have to learn concepts in blocks, may seem easier, but it is also more routine and boring. And The, for example, you want to learn “mates” really effectively, Don't spend a month studying combined math and another month studying calculus., Mix the contents and do activities randomly.

I hope these little tips help you parents., teachers and students, to teach and learn more effectively.

Thanks for being there!

Hello, I am a secondary education teacher and I think your suggestion is very good., that our teaching strategies are flexible and varied; Allowing and creating a favorable environment for our students to be creative and critical in learning optimizes our work and guarantees student autonomy to learn..

    • Hello Francisca,
Thank you for commenting on the post.
So is, I think it is essential that, although sometimes it is difficult for us to put it into practice, let's try it. A hug,
      Cristina
